Ironman Muskoka 70.3

July 13th, 2016

July 10th was a busy day for the Maloney family. While daughter Kafi Maloney Ealey was busy summiting Mt Fuji across the globe, Ralston Maloney was contending against 9 other participants in his age group,65-69. His first attempt a year previous at a finish for an Ironman event had ended in disappointment as he was forced to drop out before the run due to severe dehydration at the end of the cycling portion. That race, Ironman Chattanooga, was a full Ironman distance, and run in his hometown. Maloney turned his disappointment into motivation and, set his sights on a half distance.

With family in Canada and some that flew in from Japan to support, Ralston received a hero’s welcome at the finish line. At 67, Maloney faced many challenges while training. Heat, a knee injury, and the theft of his bike just weeks before the event. The bike was later recovered and returned to Maloney in time for his trip to Canada. Despite a grueling workout schedule, a major diet change, and pain, Maloney accomplished his goal of crossing the finish line of Ironman 70.3 Muskoka Canada. Maloney credits his stamina and endurance to years of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and his love of biking. LoAdebars have always had a role in his on the go nutrition, and were especially important during his rigorous training for this event. Congratulations to Ralston Maloney on this major life accomplishment, and whatever is next for him in the future.
